Introduction:

  • This policy shows the commitment of Airwave Engineering’s top management and workers to environmental matters and to promote environmental sustainability.
  • Airwave Engineering considers the environment as an integral part of its operating strategy and ensures that any threat of pollution from its activities is identified and either eliminated or effectively controlled in respect of the safety of our people and the environment.
  • Aims to remove or reduce the risks to the environment of all the company’s activities by ensuring that all greenhouse gases, solid, and liquid by-products of manufacturing and the running of the company are disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner, and according to national regulations and municipal by-laws.

Top Management will provide and maintain as far as possible:

  • Information, instructions, training, and supervision that is reasonably necessary to ensure that all staff members understand the potential risks to the environment resulting from the company’s activities and will take every possible step to minimize the impact our company might have on our present and future surroundings.
  • Facilities for the storage of recyclable materials until these can be responsibly and legally disposed of.
  • A commitment to continually improve our performance through effectively minimizing our environmental impact, and recycling.
  • A commitment to consult and co-operate with workers and civic regulatory bodies in all matters relating to the environment.
  • Take environmental issues into consideration with any new development.
  • Substituting environmentally hazardous substances, wherever possible, with materials with lower hazard characteristics, in so doing minimising the risk with regards to safety and the environment.

Environmental Objective:

  • The company has an ethos of not littering and all waste material generated in the factory or on the grounds needs to be placed in suitable, clearly identified separation containers, to be processed according to categories.  Emphasis is placed on not flushing hazardous materials down the drain. The company does not produce any greenhouse gases during its manufacturing process.
  • We are committed to reduce our carbon footprint at every opportunity.

This policy is implemented by the following activities with the company:

  • Wasted printer paper is re-used wherever possible.
  • Unusable paper is accumulated for recycling.
  • Containers in which goods/raw materials enter the factory are re-used wherever possible, as packaging material/floor protectors/fluid receptacles/buckets, etc.
  • Metal swarf and unwanted raw material off-cuts are stored in containers specifying their types of material and sold to recyclers once sufficient quantity has been accumulated.
  • Used oil is stored on site in certified oil spill management containers and donated for recycling once sufficient quantity has been accumulated.
  • Used coolant is stored on-site and disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner through a professional and accredited waste disposal company.
  • Usable unwanted furniture, appliances and electronic equipment is donated to charity.  Unusable items are recycled or disposed of responsibly.
  • Ensure that water is not wasted by repairing leaking taps/pipes/seals as soon as possible and educating staff to be economical in water usage.
  • Educating staff to be electricity-economical and aware of electricity wastage e.g. turn lights off as soon as sufficient sunlight enters the factory.
  • Use natural airflow for general factory cooling.
  • Do not heat water unnecessarily (i.e. no geysers, and boil only required amount of water in kettles).
  • Switch equipment, lights and machines off at day end.
  • All lights in company are low power LEDs.
  • Solar panels and inverters were installed in 2023 which enables the whole company, including the whole factory, to run independently from the national grid for at least six hours during power outages and will under normal circumstances only switch to grid power if there is insufficient solar power.  This brought about an estimated 80 to 90% saving on grid power.
  • Replace ceiling panels with see-through plexiglass where possible to utilize natural light.
  • Maintain non-smoking environment within the factory building.
  • Ensure foodstuffs are cleaned up and packed away to minimize invasions of insects and vermin.
  • Waste material that is blown onto the company’s property is collected and binned as soon as possible to prevent blocked drains and environmental damage.
  • Use of natural internal potted plants to beautify factory environment and to purify air.
